The critical role of cleanliness for business continuity

The critical role of cleanliness for business continuity

During this time of uncertainty, you may be trying to manage business continuity with team members on-site or working remotely. What can you, your team and commercial cleaning partner do to manage the impact of COVID-19?

Daily touch-point cleaning

With 80% of infectious diseases transmitted by touch, it’s essential your commercial cleaners increase daily touch-point cleaning. Touch-points are commonly touched surfaces such as tables, light switches, appliance handles, toilets and door handles.

Daily touch-points have substantial interaction with bacteria during the day and therefore it’s essential that these are disinfected daily. Just because they don’t look untidy doesn’t mean they aren’t harbouring harmful bacteria.

Clean keyboards

Keyboards are a strong environment for bacteria to grow and therefore can increase the chances of spreading infections. The team at Mrs Bucket urge all our commercial cleaning clients to regularly check the cleanliness of their team member’s keyboards. It is important that a keyboard is cleaned regularly because it is one of the main causes of spreading viruses and other illnesses in the workplace.

Don’t forget phones

When was the last time you cleaned your phone? With less face-to-face meetings and more phone calls taking place it’s essential that phones are cleaned.

Start by turning it off, removing the case and unplugging any headphones or power chargers. To avoid any scratches to the screen, the best thing to use is a micro-fibre cloth – the small cloths that come with glasses or camera lenses work well. You can also buy phone and screen cleaning kits online.

Once clean, the challenge is then to keep it clean and free of germs. One way is to always wash your hands before you use your phone. If you haven’t cleaned your phone in a while, this might make you think twice before holding it up to your face the next time you have a phone call.

Increased hand washing

Hands are also one of the most common ways that the virus spreads from one person to the next. During a global pandemic, one of the cheapest, easiest, and most important ways to prevent the spread of a virus is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water.

Ensure team members are washing their hands when they get home from work, eat or handle food and especially when they sneeze or cough.

Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water (singing Happy Birthday) not forgetting to rub the back of your hands and in between fingers.
